What is Qatra?
Qatra operates and develops wastewater and water reuse assets for the Emirate of Sharjah.
Qatra is a Public Private Partnership between the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority and BESIX that aims to expand Foreign Direct Investment in the wastewater infrastructure to contribute to the advancement of Sharjah Economy, Society and the Environment.
The company manages public infrastructures as a profitable business in a social, economic and environmental manner that fulfils the high standard of Sustainability that lies at the heart of Sharjah Government values.
Qatra is an essential link between public health and the necessity for sustainable urban development. In this regard, Qatra is delivering best-in-class practices, but also working hard to further develop its role to deliver on the following Mission Statement.

Our Assets
Qatra develops and operates different types of wastewater, water and by-products infrastructures. Some are strategic for the Public Health like the Al Saja’a Bio Refinery while others are a way to achieve sustainability.
Al Saja'a Bio Refinery
At the heart of our assets, this plant treats daily up to 33,000 m3/day of wastewater coming from all over the Emirate.
Recycling Water Plant
From March 2020, this plant will produce and distribute high-quality water for non-drinking applications as a sustainable alternative to desalinated water.
Sludge Drying Beds
Unique facility in the Emirate of Sharjah, the sludge produced by the plant are dried and used as charcoal substitute in cement factories.
Nursery
By mid-2020, the site will welcome a large-scale nursery that will make the best of our water and dry sludge.
Lakes
Qatra promotes the development of wildlife with large lakes welcoming a variety of birds and other animals.

Bio Products
The Wastewater Treatment Process produces different types of By-Products with some of them considered as waste and disposed. Common ones are the Treated Water, Sludge and Gas.
Recycled Water
Out of Treated Water, different Recycled Waters are produced depending on applications.
Dry Sludge
This product is full of nutrients and has a high calorific value making it perfect for certain use.
Gas
The treatment releases a gas that is flammable. Options exist to catch it and produce power out of it.
Phosphorous
With the rarefaction of phosphorous mines and increased demand worldwide, mining it from wastewater becomes a viable option
